Prime Minister Modi Unveils Youth-Centric Initiatives in Bihar, Criticizes Opposition

Patna: In a significant event on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a series of youth-focused initiatives in Bihar, amounting to over ₹62,000 crore. The initiatives aim to enhance education, skill development, and entrepreneurship among the youth of the state. Speaking via video conference from Delhi, Modi emphasized the importance of these programs while also taking a critical stance against the RJD-Congress alliance, accusing them of undermining the education system in Bihar.

A Historical Context of Bihar’s Education System

Modi’s remarks come against a backdrop of Bihar’s tumultuous educational history. For decades, the state’s education system was plagued by irregularities, with schools and colleges often operating sporadically. This instability forced many families to send their children to other states for better educational opportunities, leading to significant out-migration. Modi pointed out that the situation began to change in 2005 when Nitish Kumar assumed the role of Chief Minister, marking a turning point in Bihar’s educational landscape.

“Before 2005, the education system was in shambles. The people of Bihar entrusted Nitish Kumar with the responsibility to restore it,” Modi stated, likening the effort to healing a severely injured limb. His comments reflect a broader narrative of recovery and progress that has characterized Bihar’s governance since Kumar’s administration began.

New Initiatives for Skill Development

Among the initiatives launched was a new Skill University named after Bharat Ratna Jananayak Karpoori Thakur, a revered socialist leader known for his commitment to social justice. Modi expressed concern over attempts by some political factions to appropriate Thakur’s legacy, urging the people of Bihar to remain vigilant against such actions. This sentiment resonates with the Janata Dal (United), which has previously criticized Congress leaders for attempting to claim the title of “Jananayak” for Rahul Gandhi during his recent campaign in Bihar.

The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of skill development in empowering the youth, stating, “Today, India is one of the youngest countries in the world, and Bihar has a significant youth population. When the potential of Bihar’s youth increases, the strength of the country naturally increases as well.” The PM Setu Scheme, aimed at providing state-of-the-art infrastructure for ITIs, was also introduced as part of this initiative.

Economic Growth and Employment Opportunities

Modi’s address also touched on the broader economic context, asserting that India has transformed from a struggling economy to one poised to become one of the top three global economies. He noted that Bihar, often referred to as the land of knowledge, is set to play a crucial role in this transformation through enhanced educational and skill development initiatives.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the education budget under the NDA government has significantly increased compared to the previous RJD-Congress regime. He cited the establishment of numerous technical institutions and schools across the state, including the expansion of IIT Patna and the establishment of 19 Kendriya Vidyalayas. “There was a time when Bihar lacked even basic facilities like playgrounds, but now we are hosting national and international events,” he remarked.

Job Creation and Financial Support for Students

In a bid to further support the youth, Modi announced the revamped Mukhyamantri Nishchay Svyam Sahayata Bhatta Yojana, which will provide a monthly allowance of ₹1,000 to five lakh graduates for two years. This initiative aims to alleviate financial burdens on young graduates as they seek employment. Additionally, the government has introduced various financial incentives, including interest-free education loans and increased scholarships, to facilitate higher education.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the NDA government has successfully connected over 50 lakh youth with employment opportunities in Bihar over the last two decades. “In the last few years alone, about 10 lakh permanent government jobs have been created for the youth of Bihar,” he stated, reiterating the government’s commitment to enhancing job prospects within the state.

A Collaborative Effort for Youth Empowerment

Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar, echoed Modi’s sentiments, highlighting the importance of the 11 schemes launched during the event. He stated that these initiatives would significantly empower the youth and prepare them for future challenges. Kumar also reflected on the progress made since 2005, asserting that his government has focused on establishing rule of law and inclusive development.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, as well as Union Minister Lalan Singh. Many beneficiaries shared their success stories, illustrating the positive impact of the government’s initiatives on their lives.

Conclusion

Prime Minister Modi’s unveiling of youth-centric initiatives in Bihar marks a pivotal moment in the state’s ongoing journey toward educational and economic revitalization. By addressing the historical challenges faced by the education system and emphasizing the importance of skill development, the government aims to empower the youth and foster a brighter future for Bihar. As the state continues to evolve, the collaboration between the central and state governments will be crucial in ensuring that these initiatives translate into tangible benefits for the youth of Bihar.
