ID4Fashion Warehouse Opens in Wattrelos: A New Era for E-commerce Logistics

In a significant development for the e-commerce landscape, the newly branded ID4Fashion warehouse in Wattrelos has officially commenced operations. This expansive facility, previously known as La Redoute’s Quai 30, spans an impressive 42,000 square meters and is poised to revolutionize the logistics of fashion retail. Under the management of ID Logistics since June 1, the site has the potential to process up to 45 million orders annually, although it is currently handling around 20 million.

A State-of-the-Art Facility

The ID4Fashion warehouse is a marvel of modern logistics, featuring twenty-one aisles of shelving that reach toward the high ceilings of its vast storage area. Automated systems, including vertical shuttles, efficiently retrieve cartons, which are then transported via conveyor belts to operators. These workers meticulously pick items and place them into hanging pouches, which are subsequently sent to a packing area. This streamlined process allows for an order to move from placement to dispatch in as little as two hours.

Arnaud Lainé, the Fashion Market Director at ID Logistics, emphasized the importance of flexibility in meeting client needs. “We know there are stages where clients need highly tailored responses,” he stated. This adaptability extends to quality control, packaging, and returns, with the latter being processed swiftly to ensure items can be resold within 24 hours.

Employment and Community Impact

The facility employs around 350 workers, with nearly 60% being women, reflecting a commitment to diversity in the workforce. While the site and its equipment remain under La Redoute’s ownership, ID Logistics is responsible for its operations. Patrice Fitzner, Logistics Director at La Redoute, explained that the partnership aims to sustain industrial activity and ensure a steady volume of operations at the site. La Redoute has invested approximately €45 million in the facility since 2013, excluding the building costs.

Strategic Partnerships in a Changing Market

ID4Fashion is not just another warehouse; it is part of a broader strategy by ID Logistics to enhance its capabilities in the fashion sector. The company currently manages 450 sites across 19 countries, boasting over 9 million square meters of warehouse space and handling more than 22 million transport orders annually. With 10% of its business linked to the apparel market, the former Quai 30 site represents a strategic opportunity for growth.

Éric Hémard, President of ID Logistics, noted the increasing relevance of large-scale logistics providers in the context of robust online clothing sales. “We estimate that over the next two or three years, this type of operation could be repeated,” he remarked, indicating that similar partnerships may emerge across various sectors.

Attracting New Brands

Looking ahead, ID4Fashion aims to diversify its client base, with plans for third-party brands to account for one-third of its operations. La Redoute will continue to dominate the site’s activities, but ID Logistics is actively negotiating with a range of brands. These include a premium label, “Cérémonial,” which sells 8 million units annually, and an affordable fashion brand with a balanced sales split between online and physical stores.

The logistics company is also preparing to launch a dedicated warehouse for Parfums Christian Dior in the Aube region of France by 2027, further solidifying its position in the luxury goods market.
