Ahmed Seddiqi Expands into Saudi Arabia: A New Era for Luxury Retail

RIYADH – In a significant move marking its 75-year legacy, Ahmed Seddiqi, a prominent family-owned retailer from the UAE, has opened its first flagship boutique in Riyadh. This expansion into Saudi Arabia underscores the retailer’s ambitions to tap into the burgeoning luxury market in the Middle East. The new 4,400-square-foot boutique, located on the prestigious Tahliah Street, opened its doors on Tuesday, showcasing an impressive array of over 25 watch and jewelry brands. This strategic move comes at a time when Saudi Arabia’s luxury retail sector is experiencing remarkable growth, with Swiss watch exports to the Kingdom soaring by 31 percent in March 2024.

A Milestone Year for Ahmed Seddiqi

Mohammed Abdulmagied Seddiqi, the CEO of Ahmed Seddiqi, emphasized the significance of 2025 for the company. “It marks 75 years since my late grandfather, Mr. Ahmed Qassim Seddiqi, established this business,” he stated in an interview with WWD. The boutique’s opening not only celebrates this milestone but also aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which aims to transform the Kingdom into a global luxury hub. This vision is being realized through a new generation of younger collectors, creating what Seddiqi describes as an “incredibly exciting” opportunity for the region.

Embracing Independent Brands

The boutique’s carefully curated selection reflects Ahmed Seddiqi’s commitment to promoting independent watchmakers alongside established luxury brands. Notable names such as Ressence, Bremont, and H. Moser & Cie anchor the independent watch offerings, while Swiss haute horlogerie is represented by brands like Girard-Perregaux and Ulysse Nardin.

“We have always highlighted the importance of independent brands and craftsmanship,” Seddiqi remarked. “This will continue to be our focus in Riyadh as we look to complement the Kingdom’s luxury offering.”

In addition to watches, the boutique introduces two Italian jewelry brands, Palmiero and Picchiotti, to the Saudi market for the first time, alongside contemporary fine jewelry from Suzanne Kalan. This diverse assortment aims to cater to the evolving tastes of Saudi consumers.

A Unique Customer Experience

The design and layout of the boutique have been meticulously planned to enhance the customer experience. It features four VIP rooms for private appointments, branded shop-in-shop areas, and a hospitality zone. A standout service component is the on-site watch technician, who will provide immediate repairs and servicing-an innovative feature that sets the boutique apart in the competitive luxury market.

“We will also have an in-house watch technician in the boutique to support clients with immediate fixes and servicing requirements,” Seddiqi noted. This service extends the expertise of Ahmed Seddiqi’s Swiss Watch Services center in Dubai, which is recognized as the largest independent after-sales facility of its kind in the region.

Building a Cultural Destination

For Seddiqi, this expansion is not merely about retail presence; it is about creating a cultural destination. “We look forward to cultivating a community of horology and jewelry enthusiasts as we build lasting relationships with new and existing clients,” he stated. The goal is to establish a space rooted in hospitality, trust, and expertise, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s transformation into a global luxury hub.

The emphasis on education and experience is a cornerstone of the company’s long-term strategy. “We are eager to continue to create unique experiences for the audience in Saudi Arabia and provide a platform that drives awareness and education on horology, luxury, and craftsmanship,” Seddiqi added.

Cautious Growth Strategy

When asked about future expansion plans in Saudi Arabia, Seddiqi adopted a measured approach. “For now, the flagship boutique is our focus from an expansion perspective. In due course, if an opportunity arises that feels right for the business, we will certainly explore this,” he stated.

This cautious strategy reflects the company’s family business ethos. Abdul Hamied Seddiqi, chairman of Seddiqi Holding, highlighted the importance of this milestone: “As a family business celebrating its 75th anniversary, this expansion marks a significant moment for us all as we continue to honor our founder’s vision.”

Mohammed Abdulmagied Seddiqi views the Saudi expansion as a natural evolution of that founding vision. “My grandfather was driven by his passion for watches, and to this day, that is something we, as the third and fourth generations in the business, look to as we honor his legacy and vision,” he explained. The company remains committed to fostering strong connections with brands and partners while pioneering the luxury retail landscape for years to come.

A Promising Future in Luxury Retail

With over 50 boutiques across the UAE and a portfolio of more than 100 brands, the Riyadh opening represents a market-first for Ahmed Seddiqi. The retailer’s curated approach to independent watchmaking and personalized service is expected to resonate well in one of the world’s fastest-growing luxury markets.

As Saudi Arabia continues to evolve under Vision 2030, the luxury retail sector is poised for further growth. Ahmed Seddiqi’s entry into this market not only signifies a new chapter for the retailer but also reflects the broader trends shaping the luxury landscape in the Middle East.

In conclusion, the opening of Ahmed Seddiqi’s flagship boutique in Riyadh is a landmark event that encapsulates the intersection of tradition and modernity in luxury retail. As the company embarks on this new journey, it aims to honor its heritage while embracing the future of luxury in a rapidly changing market.
